Riccardo Vincelli

Director of the Functional Safety Competence Center Renesas Electronics Europe GmbH

Riccardo Vincelli is a senior manager at Renesas Electronics where he worked for nearly 20 years. He's heading the functional safety competence center responsible for the technical assessment of all world wide Renesas products (MCU, SoC, Analogue ASICs and SW) as well as a corporate advisor for functional safety. He's been involved with the creation of ISO26262 since 2005 as well as ISO-PAS-19451 (and other safety standards). Conference Day One

8:40 AM Welcome Panel Discussion – Part 1 | Settling in with the 2nd ISO 26262 edition and preparation for the 3rd

• First thoughts and feedback on real life implementation from International WG members
• Introduction of the timeline for the 3rd edition and when to expect the next ISO meetings
• What should new interested parties know for getting involved
• Setting up the conference expectations and key areas to be addressed

9:10 AM Welcome Panel Discussion – Part 2 | Assumptions vs expectations: How to address complexity in electronic product development

• During this second part of the panel discussion, we welcome on the stage representatives from Tier 1s and OEMs for addressing concerns in product complexity and traceability.
• An opportunity for car maker representatives to discuss challenges they currently face with electronic suppliers.
• Safety mechanisms vs product availability: Is there such thing as too much safety? What are the expectations of car makers on system availability for highly automated features

Conference Day Two

4:00 PM Town Hall Session with working group members of the international ISO 26262 working group (ISO/TC 022/SC 32/WG 08 ″Functional safety″)

Meet ISO 26262 working group Committee Members and get the opportunity to clarify doubts in this open session. Participants will be asked to choose two from the six tables available, each one moderated by an expert who specializes on a specific section of ISO 26262. There are 25 minutes allotted for each table discussion participants choose.

Session I 16:00 pm – 16:30 pm
Break for Switching 16:30 pm – 16:40 pm
Session II 16:40 pm – 17:10 pm
End of open discussions 17:10 pm

How it works: During the conference, you will write down which paragraphs of the ISO26262:2018 standard you would like to see addressed. After receiving the information, you can discuss your comments and comments with the respective working group members of the international ISO 26262 working group (ISO/TC 022/SC 32/WG 08 „Functional safety“).

Workshop Day

8:00 AM A | HOW MUCH SAFETY IS ENOUGH: BALANCING SAFETY MECHANISMS VS PRODUCT AVAILABILITY IN DIFFERENT AUTOMATION LEVELS

Safety concepts under ISO 26262 require a clear documentation and argumentation of how to deal with violations of safety goals by introducing either hardware or software safety mechanisms in order to maintain or bring the vehicle back in safe operational state. The complexity however for chip manufacturers working in product lines for autonomous applications with no direct line of communication to the car maker, face the risk of introducing unnecessary safety mechanisms by assuming the car maker’s needs that would either create unnecessary high costs for the chip manufacturer and could still end in limiting the products availability and therefore affect the vehicle’s controllability. During this workshop, we will examine case studies where the introduction of too many safety mechanisms has compromised the system availability and how can semiconductors tackle this during the initial stages of safety concept design.
