The automotive cyber security risk landscape is constantly evolving, vehicles today are full of possible vulnerabilities. Malicious activity from threat actors is up 30 – 40% in 2024, and it is only a matter of time before vehicles gets compromised. Attack vectors are changing, attack surfaces are increasing daily as more technology is added, and vehicles are getting smarter and more connected to other parties than ever before. 

Open-source protocols, connection to back-end interfaces and the cloud, and FOTA have given attackers the ability to not only launch an attack on a larger scale but also duplicate the attack to other vehicles. Major automotive companies, mainly in Asia, are now using advanced cybersecurity as a way to get customer attention and increase confidence to buy their vehicles. With recognition growing that a compromised vehicle is not only a financial problem but more importantly a safety and privacy problem, security is being viewed as a luxury vehicle feature and a way to win customers.


As the automotive industry’s drive to have vehicles connected all the time grows, and cutting-edge AI and LLMs are integrated into vehicles, vehicle cybersecurity becomes more and more important, requiring more advanced cybersecurity management systems and continuous monitoring and improvement of programs and processes. Threats are likely to triple, if not quadruple.
