Department Head Safety Engineering Fraunhofer IESE

Jan Reich heads the safety engineering department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering IESE since 2024, which deals with systematic assurance, validation and safety monitoring methods to enable the safe market entry of innovative systems. The focus is on autonomous systems (of systems) that are operated in complex operational environments and include technological innovations such as machine learning. In his previous role as Expert Scientist, he was responsible for the topic "Dynamic Assurances for Connected Autonomous Systems" at the institute. In the German lighthouse project "PEGASUS Verification and Validation Methods (VVM)" of the VDA flagship initiative "Automated Connected Driving", he coordinated the creation of a safety argumentation framework for the approval of highly automated driving systems.
