Stones Project Director Curtis Lohr of Shell invigorated the audience with his presentation on the final chapter of the Stones Development, the world’s deepest offshore oil and gas project. Attendees were moved by this feat of human engineering and demonstration of absolute safety excellence, and the presentation on reaching first oil was met with a rousing ovation. “Every time that video chokes me up,” Curtis said of the achievements made on the Stones project.

Teekay Offshore followed with a presentation on redeployment strategies and key considerations to successful delivery; from understanding and aligning field economics with the true value of the redelivered asset, to optimising scheduling and execution for a truly cost-effective project.

The redeployment conversation continued into a debate between key FPSO contractors on how best to undertake redeployments and the importance of managing stakeholder expectations. With almost every vessel contractor holding FPSO assets coming off contract, it was a stimulating discussion with varied, valid points

Delegates had a final opportunity to engage with the exciting Technology Hall, discussing innovative new technologies at our sponsor booths, witnessing product demonstrations and even trying their hand at our golf simulator, before once again joining four individual stream sessions for the afternoon.

The Congress closed with Chairman Duncan Peace wrapping up the week’s discussions and posing a challenge to the FPSO industry: for delegates to return to the workplace and implement these ideas of collaboration, technological innovation and standardisation into concrete action in order to evolve and propel the FPSO industry forward
