Scott Yarham is the Director, Metals Pricing EMEA and global battery metals lead at Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights. Leading the content teams for both ferrous and non-ferrous market coverage within the EMEA region, and also leads Platts' global battery metals pricing service. Prior to joining Platts, Scott was the Pricing Development Manager at CRU International and Head of bulk alloy, minor metals, steel raw materials and finished steel markets. Scott holds a first-class degree in international relations from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa
EV production is ramping up, and the geopolitical situation is unpredictable. China is continuing to dominate the upstream materials and commodity market. While Europe wants to become independent and leverage recycling as a way to produce raw materials, the infrastructure is currently not in place. Until Europe reaches the point of having a circular economy, we will be heavily dependent on China. On top of that, material costs are increasing. If the costs rise any more, and if the supply chain bottlenecks don’t ease, EV manufacturers and manufacturing will be seriously affected.
