Agenda Day 2

LIGHTWEIGHT TECHNOLOGY IN SUSPENSION SYSTEMS

8:00 am - 8:30 am Registration and Welcome Coffee

8:30 am - 8:40 am Opening Remarks by the conference chairman

Glenn Whitehead

Engineer
FCA

8:40 am - 9:20 am An Approach to Develop Light Weight Suspension Systems

The presentation shows how light weight suspension systems and components can be
effectively realized. First it will be shown how and why full vehicle weights have significantly
increased in the past 30 years. The light weight process deployed by Ford concentrates in the
first place on the development on weight effective solutions before, in the second step, weight
reductions are “bought” by means of lighter and more expensive materials, like aluminum,
composite materials. Selected examples more actual development projects will be shown to
demonstrate the process.
• Vehicle Weight benchmarking
• Light weight Suspension Systems and Components
• Aluminum and Composite Application in Suspension Systems

9:20 am - 10:00 am Advanced Suspension Technology Overview

Value Aspects of Suspension Technology makes it difficult to progress. The end user can
not easy distinguish between the ride parameters – so his problem is value for money.
Today’s trend is less dynamics, more comfort. AD vehicles will require much more comfort.
But will AD vehicle be mainstream and can we make a business case on it?
