In February 2024, Steven Wicks and Alice Andrews from Automotive IQ met with Gareth Price, Director of Software Delivery at Eatron Technologies to film The Functional Safety Week Podcast. The conversation dived deep into the current state of the automotive industry regarding Functional Safety. The interview has been divided into two parts for a video podcast series. You can now access Part 1 of the exclusive interview, with Part 2 available for viewing as well.

What prompted this interview?

As ISO 26262 matures, the automotive industry faces fresh challenges due to advancements in electrification, autonomous driving, software-defined vehicles, and AI applications. These developments introduce unprecedented levels of complexity when it comes to ensuring safety. Additionally, SOTIF is rapidly emerging, and safety experts are gearing up for decisions regarding the third edition of ISO 26262. To prepare for this new edition, OEMs and Suppliers are seeking updated guidance to adapt to the ongoing changes in the automotive sector.

Key points of discussion for part 1:

  • Gareth sheds light on whether safety considerations for HV and LV battery management systems are similar, given Eatron's involvement in both.
  • The impact of existing gaps in standards for HV and LV battery development.
  • Gareth's expert recommendations for mitigating these impacts.
