Automotive IQ's Top Super Bowl Ads of 2014

Will Hornick | 02/06/2014

Each year, companies spend their marketing budgets in a competition over 'the best Super Bowl ad of the year' and this year's Big Game left the ads as the main attraction. The auto industry usually comes up with some winners.

After watching all of the auto ads that debuted during 'The Big Game,' the Automotive IQ team picked our three favorites. Hope you enjoy watching them as much as we did.

Honorable Mentions

Honda's #Hugfest starring Bruce Willis

Ad Agency RPA utilized action hero Bruce Willis for Honda's Big Game Spot. Amidst all of the hard-hitting of the game and full-on advertising, this one stood out as a simple reminder to look around and appreciate the people who are with you. Too sappy for some? Perhaps. But it was a good, clear message. A nice surprise. Well done Honda.

Chevy's 'Life' Ad

Although we weren't too impressed by Chevy's commercial about a bull romance, their other ad in support of World Cancer Day made up for it. Done by the ad agency Leo Burnett Detroit, Chevy aimed to promote awareness of their Purple Roads Initiative where Chevy would donate up to $1 million to the American Cancer Society on February 4th.

'Dad's Sixth Sense' from Hyundai

Hyundai's ad for the 2015 Genesis was absolutely brilliant and our clear winner. Cleverly making dad the hero with a knack for anticipating his son's accidents, the car is only introduced at that moment that all parents must fear - when their kid begins driving. Arguably one of the major milestones to adulthood, dad finally steps aside as the hero making way for the AEB system of the Genesis.

Let us know what you thought about this year's Super Bowl ads.
